Lifting hoists are a fantastic source of assistance for those who struggle to safely move around a specific area of their home or in hospital environments. Hoists not only allow people in need of assistance to enjoy more comfort and independence when they’re moving around but they also make moving and handling patients much easier for caregivers.
Hoists are capable of helping seniors who want to stay in their own homes despite problems with strength and mobility, and people living with disabilities who are unable to lift themselves up properly. With this in mind, we stock a wide range of hoists to meet every Australian’s needs.
For example, we stock portable floor hoists to help transfer non-weight-bearing patients from a wheelchair to a bed (or vice versa), a wheelchair to a commode, or a bed to a commode. Sourced from premium brands like Allegro Concepts, Invacare, Ergolet and Etac, our floor hoists are simple to use and easy to store when not in use.
Browse through our collection of portable floor hoists and shop online for fast, convenient shipping throughout Australia. Alternatively, book a showroom appointment in Silverwater or Thornton NSW to see our floor hoists in person! We offer free hoist demonstrations so you can decide which hoist is right for your patient.
How to choose the right floor hoist for your patient
Choosing a floor hoist for your patient doesn’t have to be a challenge. There are a few key elements to consider while shopping around:
- The weight of the patient. All hoists have a maximum safe working load (SWL). This will either be displayed on the hoist or you will find it in the hoist’s instruction manual. You will need to compare the SWL with the patient’s weight to ensure the hoist can withstand their weight. While browsing through our floor hoists, we recommend keeping an eye on the SWL and contacting us if you need assistance finding a hoist that can handle your patient’s weight.
- Transfer purpose. When choosing a hoist, it’s important to consider what the hoist will be used for. For example, if the patient needs assistance moving from room to room in their own home, you might consider a ceiling hoist with a tracking system instead of a floor hoist. Floor hoists are ideal for patients who need assistance transferring from a wheelchair to a bed, wheelchair to a commode, etc.
- The needs of the patient. Consider the physical and cognitive abilities of the patient. Will a floor hoist be safe and comfortable to transfer them from point A to B? Does a floor hoist have the functionality you need to care for your patient?
- Whether the hoist is right for the patient’s home/room. Take a look at the patient’s home or hospital room. Can the hoist be manoeuvred around the area where it will be used?
If you need assistance choosing the right hoist for your patient, feel free to get in touch with the team from Active Mobility. We have product specialists and occupational therapists on-hand who can assess your patient’s needs and pair them with a hoist that will serve them for years to come.
